Welcome to Mexico Beach, where the sand is pure white and you actually feel like you are walking on sugar. Apparently, the sand found on the majority of the world's beaches contains a mixture of approximately twenty different materials. The sugar-like white sand found in Mexico Beach, however, contains only one: evenly sized quartz crystals. This quartz sand originated millions of years ago in the Appalachian Mountain range.
This spectacular stretch of shoreline situated on the Gulf of Mexico is located in the southernmost portion of the Florida Panhandle and is 30 minutes east of Panama City.
It is simply amazing walking in this sugary white powdery mixture, it is so smooth and so white! Throughout our costal travels and the many, many, beaches we have visited, the sand on this beach would be Rated #1. And those amazing sunsets.... and sparkling waters that stretch along the Gulf of Mexico.
One of the beaches in Mexico Beach that we visited had hundreds of star fish washed up on the beach, all down the shoreline for a 1/2 mile. It was shocking to see all of these dead starfish washed up on the beach. As we walked along the beach we could see more dead star fish being brought in by the waves. We could not believe our eyes, it was a erring feeling seeing all these dead star fish. We asked several people what had happened, one couple told us that there was a storm about a week ago and lighting had hit the water and killed them. Not really sure if this was the reason, as there was no dead fish washed up. I guess we will always wonder. This pic captures only a very small and tiny portion of what we saw as we walked along this beach. Tragic!!
Just another day in Florida, when out golfing on the golf course we came across this baby alligator and turtle.
